A sneaky peek at Poldark’s season 2 locations…
With season 2 of the hit TV show upon us Cornwall is just buzzing with Polark related activity. Keep an eye out for these locations!
Holywell! Situated on the north coast this great big bay of fine sands and iconic, large pointy rocks (Gull rock is quite the rock) makes the perfect setting for a number of scenes in season 2. Close to Newquay, but far enough to avoid the trappings of hustling and bustling crowds. Also allows dogs all year around!
Not far from the Minack Theatre sits a little jewel; Porthcurno beach, a secret nirvana of pale sands and turquoise seas so dreamy they used it for a dream sequence in season 1. Porthcurno will be returning in season 2, as dream, or foreshadowed reality? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Dogs are allowed apart from between the 1st of May and the 30th September.
Up from Porthcurno is the rugged Cliffside of Gwennap Head. Atmospheric, and with a monstrously large vista, the views offered here are astounding. Gwennap will feature in season 2 as a backdrop for a variety of shots.
Kynance has seen a lot of filming action recently, with a large amount for sequences of ‘And Then There Were None’ the BBC drama taking place on its iconic, cove dotted shores. Kynance is made up of gorgeous sand contrasted with this brutally fractured rocky headland that bounds and twists and descends shattered into the sea – the end result being a variety of hidden nooks and crannies to explore and a lot of visual information for the eye to enjoy.
Prehistoric burial grounds and medieval stone crosses – this windswept plateau has quite a history… The walks here can take you through Mullion Cove and around the Lizard National Nature Reserve; a spectacularly primal environment, and full of wildlife, Predannack is used for multiple sequences featuring horseback charges with backdrops of the vista.
This headland clearly inspired the Poldark team, and we can see why. Park Head overlooks Bedruthan Steps and offers a staggering view of the north coast. Season 2 may well be utilising this space for framing shots of bounding cliff-side chases, or various candid half naked shots of Ross Poldark one can only presume.
Season 2 starts right where season 1 left off, with Ross Poldark adjusting to the struggles of married life with a love triangle with Elizabeth and Demelza, and of course, his trial and possible execution/imprisonment…
