A short walk along the coastal path from Mawgan Porth (or a two minute drive) is Watergate Bay, a popular destination for watersports enthusiasts. With a two mile stretch of golden beach, there’s an expanse of space to play on when the tide is out. The Extreme Academy sports school offers everything an adrenaline junkie needs in terms of hire or lessons: Kitesurfing, surfing, traction kiting, stand up paddle boarding, waveskiing and their newest sport – hand planing. The school also offers changing facilities, hot showers and secure lockers for everyone taking part in lessons.
If being outdoors is your thing then head for the Camel Trail, a disused railway line which has been resurfaced to create a trail for cyclists, walkers and horse-riders. The trail is flat and straight which is part of its appeal and car parking at Padstow, Wadebridge and Poley’s Bridge allows it to be broken into 5 mile sections, offering 10 mile round trip. The full length of the trail is over 17miles starting from Padstow and there are many cycle hire, cafes and other attractions along the way. The trail is also suitable for tag-alongs or buggies, allowing toddlers to enjoy the fun safely behind their parents. There is only a small part of the trail through Wadebridge which is shared with normal traffic. An enjoyable day out for families or couples alike the Camel Trail is a must on your ‘things to do in Cornwall’ list!
