Cocktails by the beach

Sun, Sea and A Great Cocktail

We love a cocktail here at The Kitchen by The Beach, so much so that we have our own cocktail menu for you to enjoy, wherever possible using Cornish ingredients and spirits.

If you’re struggling to decide between your mojito and your piña colada, we thought we’d share some interesting info about your drink of choice…

The world’s best-selling cocktails

Trends will come and go but there will always be firm favourites. Using the World’s 50 Best Bars list and asking those bars to rank their 10 best-selling cocktails, Business Insider came up with the following:

1. Old Fashioned The best-selling cocktail for the fourth year in a row, this is the number one drink in nearly 30% of the world's best bars. One good recipe: one sugar cube wetted with three dashes of Angostura bitters and a little soda, crushed, stirred with a large ice cube and two ounces of rye.

2. Negroni Four years in a row as the runner-up, the Negroni is now a firm favourite. It's made with a third, a third, and a third of Campari, sweet vermouth, and gin.

3. Whiskey Sour Up in the ranks from number 5 last year, the Whiskey Sour was in the top 10 at nearly 60% of the bars polled. It's make with bourbon, lemon juice, a teaspoon of sugar, and an optional egg white.

We’ve just listed their top three, but you can read the full list here

Best beach cocktails

Of course, with Mawgan Porth beach being just a short stroll from us here at The Kitchen by The Beach, we wanted to know which were the best beach favourites!

  1. The Miami Vice- one part piña colada, one part strawberry daiquiri, and it is vacation in a glass. Simply delicious.
  2. Piña colada- made with rum, pineapple and coconut cream – this was always going to be high up on the list!!
  3. Frozen Magarita– a mixture of tequila, lime, triple sec and sugar. Zingy and refreshing!
