The Kitchen strengthens its environmental commitment

Keeping It Green In The Kitchen

Here at The Park we take our commitment to protecting our environment seriously. Here’s a press release of our latest initiatives…

The Park has recently signed up to The Final Straw, a local campaign in Cornwall encouraging people to stop using single use straws, and now provides biodegradable straws instead; but it hasn’t stopped there with a range of environmentally friendly measures.

The Kitchen By The Beach is now also providing all take away meals in biodegradable containers and has scrapped boxes made from plastic.

Head chef Michael Corbin, said: “We haven’t just made a decision to stop using plastic straws, we’re looking at ways that we can make positive environmental changes across the whole business.”

The measures don’t stop there, several of the properties are solar powered and the restaurant has solar panels on the roof. When building new fence panelling around the site, the team used recycled wood and reclaimed timber.

The resident gardener is committed to helping wildlife and has introduced bespoke birdfeeders, as well as bee hives on site, which help encourage the flora. Local wild flowers and greenery native to the area are also planted around The Park.

On the final Sunday of each month staff head down to Mawgan Porth beach to take part in an organised beach clean with other members of the local community.

General manager of The Park, Rebecca Marks said: “We’re mindful of the difference every individual business and person can make. We’re helping to spread the word about the monthly beach clean on our social media and it’s great to see not only locals getting involved, but our guests from elsewhere in the country saying they’re looking forward to joining in when they visit on holiday.”

The award is given to parks that demonstrate work undertaken to develop and enhance Britain’s natural wildlife.

Rebecca added: “We’ll continue to look for ways that we can play our part at The Park making environmentally friendly improvements wherever and whenever we can.”

The Park is an exclusive collection of lodges, cabins, yurts and cottages nestled in the North Cornwall village of Mawgan Porth.

Just 300 yards from the beach, with fantastic on-site facilities, including a restaurant, pool, sauna and children’s play area – it offers the perfect place to relax and unwind for both locals and holiday makers alike.
