Keep The Kids Busy This Summer

It can be tough thinking up new ideas for every holidays. Thankfully, Cornwall is positively bursting with exciting activities and attractions for all weathers, certain to keep the kids busy all summer long. The following are some of our favourite things to do with kids in Cornwall. To help you stay within your holiday budget, we’ve included some of the best free things to do in Cornwall.

• Hit the surf. Cornwall is the best surfing spot in the UK, whether you’re new to the sport and in need of tuition or are already fully at home on the Atlantic breakers. The best area is Cornwall’s north coast, around Magwan Porth beach and Watergate Bay –right next to The Park.

• Spend a day on the beach. With more than 400km of coastline and 300-plus beaches, Cornwall is also one of Britain’s best spots for a seaside break. Among Blue Flag beaches so-listed for their excellence is Trevone Bay just 12km from The Park. But there’s a Cornwall beach for all tastes and ages, from hidden coves perfect for crabbing and rock-pooling to vast stretches of sand with water sports galore.

• Head for the farm. Cornwall has lots of places to take the kids to meet friendly animals and sometimes to help feed them and even get involved with farm tasks. One of our favourites within easy reach of Magwan Porth is Old MacDonald’s Farm, a small family-run farm park with animals including alpacas, as well as a miniature railway, crazy golf, pedal go-karts and giant trampolines. It serves a mean Cornish cream tea and delicious scrumpy, too. This is also among the best things to do in Cornwall in the rain, with a games barn with face-painting and farm crafts.

Also near The Park is DairyLand Farm World, an adventure park with a pat-a-pet section, pony-rides, nature trails, a maize maze, mini-tractors and even a Lamborghini hay-ride. And while not a farm, Camel Creek Adventure Park has animals to meet, too, including shire horses, meerkats and leaf-cutter ants, along with a 5D experience inspired by NASA technology plus various rides.

• Indulge your foodie fantasies. From local producers offering tours to some of the best beach cafés in the UK, Cornwall is a foodie hotspot for all ages. One of our favourite days out in Cornwall with kids is a trip to Callestick Farm about 30 minutes from The Park.

• Get cultural. There are some great museums in the region, all of them perfect days-out venues for rainy days in Cornwall. We particularly rate the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth, which always runs great family events and children’s activities in the school holidays. Or for history told from a quirky point of view, try Pirate’s Quest in Newquay close to the The Park, which takes visitors on a walk-through exploration of Cornwall’s swash-buckling past complete with live actors.

Cornwall also has some fabulous fortifications, including Pendennis Castle in Falmouth with its fantastic and raucous reconstructions of historical events loved by adults and kids alike.
