The Park – home to happy dogs

A Home To Happy Dogs

There’s more than one reason to bring your dog on holiday with you to Cornwall – the walks, the pubs, the beaches, the tourist attractions, our gorgeous pet-friendly accommodation, not to mention that it’s expensive to leave them behind at home!

In June and November we’re celebrating our dog-friendly months here at The Park. Of course, we welcome them all year round, but you can bring them for free during those months*.

Beaches

We’re exceptionally lucky that our local beach, Mawgan Porth, welcomes dogs all year round and is just a short stroll from The Park. Also on our doorstep are Watergate Bay, a long open stretch of golden sand, and the popular Fistral Beach, home to surfers.

Visit Cornwall has put together the top ten beaches to visit this summer with your dog. You can find it here

Pubs

What could be better than a walk with your dog on a beautiful sunny day while on holiday in Cornwall? Well, how about a walk with your dog on a beautiful sunny day, to some of the best pubs in the county!

On-site you can visit The Kitchen by The Beach, but if you're venturing out then Crantock Beach, just outside Newquay, is open for dogs all year round and has a great pub at the end of it - The Cornishman pub.

If it’s Cornish charm you’re seeking, a visit to Porthleven is a must. The harbour boasts sea views and The Harbour Inn is a great place to stop and absorb the beautiful surroundings.

National Trust

With miles of beautiful coastline and wonderful woodland to explore, Cornwall has a wealth of places to visit that are owned and managed by the National Trust.

We particularly like the Lanhydrock Respryn ramble, near Bodmin – a gentle walk introducing you to the magical, mature, mixed woodland and impressive parkland of the Lanhydrock estate.

If you’re a fan of the author Daphne du Maurier, take the Gribbin Head trail that visits the sites featured in her book.

Tourist attractions

Whilst walks, pubs and even National Trust sites are fantastic – what about the small people in your lives that might just want to go to a tourist attraction and play the day away?

Thankfully there are several tourist attractions in Cornwall that welcome dogs. The Seal Sanctuary, at Gweek, is the only fully operational seal rescue centre in Cornwall and provides a lifetime home for sick, injured and orphaned seals washed up on the coastline. A great place to visit for younger children and incredibly dog friendly.

And what’s a trip to Cornwall without visiting the Eden Project – the world’s largest indoor rainforest! The dogs aren’t allowed in the biomes, but they’re welcome in the outdoor gardens.

Kennels are expensive!

Another great reason to bring your pet with you? Well, leaving them home can be costly! The website Job Prices surveyed 10 random kennel and pet boarding firms at various locations across the UK. Some charge more than £300 for a two week stay…

Also, every firm made it clear that pets are only accepted if they have up to date vaccines and a kennel cough vaccination too, along with proof of their treatments.

Home boarding can be an even more costly option. Read the full article here…

Staying at The Park

We love dogs here at The Park, several members of our team have dogs of their own and you might catch them visiting from time to time. You needn’t substitute a luxury stay, simply because your pet is with you! Our website has a guide to each of the dog-friendly properties, and many include a hot tub, wood burner, your own private outdoor space and there are facilities for those who are disabled too.

On arrival you’ll be greeted with information in your accommodation on great local walks, and some treats for your four-legged friend.

Dogs are welcome in the conservatory area and outdoor at our on-site restaurant, The Kitchen by The Beach so you won’t miss out on trying chef, Michael Corbin’s delicious menus.

After a day at the beach, why not wash your pet off in their own on-site dedicated doggy shower – we’ve tried to think of everything!

As previously mentioned in June and November we’re celebrating dog friendly month, which means your dog can stay for FREE on a stay of three nights or more. Visit here to find out more…

Finally, here are some tips for travelling with your pet…

  • Plan your journey so you can stop and exercise your pet
  • Pack plenty of supplies – so your dog has all their favourite treats
  • Ensure their collar has a tag with your contact details
  • Make them comfy in our accommodation – perhaps bring their bed or a favourite toy
  • Trips – if you do decide to venture out without your dog, plan your visits around their needs
